Deliverables
D1.1 Technology survey: Prospective and challenges: [month 07]
D1.2 Roadmap of the research team in SDWM: [month 07]
D1.3 Research QA Handbook [month 17] (that will include a preliminary Research Quality Report)
D1.4 Research Quality report [month 36]
D1.5 Statement regarding the update of the Participant Portal [Month 02]
This document presents a technology survey for smart data and services that support water management. The technology survey is elaborated by the UPB team in collaboration with the partner institutions from this project.
The survey consists of eight sections and the References. The first section, the Introduction, define the main concepts and terms that will be used in this documents, such as hydroinformatics. The second section, Data, describes the main research directions and challenges regarding data gathering, storing, processing and sharing for the Water Management systems. Several ICT technologies that support such management systems are described, such as streaming data analytics and MapReduce models. The third section is dedicated to Water Models. Two main paradigms for aquatic modelling are discussed here: physically-based and data-driven modelling. The next section provides an overview of the most performant ICT based systems that offers functionalities such as monitoring, control and decision support for the Water Management environment. Section five analyses the implications of worldwide non-government organizations in the water management field. Also, here the focus is on the citizen or community science in the context of the European community and, in particular, in Romania. Section six deals with specific standards needed for the hydroinformatics systems. This is an important topic due to the heterogeneity of the systems’ components. In Section 7, priority areas, challenges and research directions in FP7 and H2020 projects are discussed. A list with water related FP7 and H2020 projects is provides, along with their main objectives and topics. The last section provides future research directions and water related subjects that are correlated with the priority areas listed in HORIZON 2020.
This document presents a Roadmap for the research group, as a general, strategic plan for enhancing the research activities and results in the field of smart data for water management.
The Roadmap is based on a SWOT analysis of the UPB group’s research, and on the technology survey document elaborated in this WP, more specific on the research directions to be followed by the research group over the next 5 - 10 years. This will allow achieving an optimal synergy between the project outcomes and other funding opportunities and will be used as guidelines for future research and innovation of the Smart Data for Water Management Group.
The Roadmap is developed in collaboration with scientists from partnering institutions; it is aligned with the partners’ research agendas, and takes into account the needs of European industry and government stakeholders.
The document includes a short presentation of the project teams, the results of the SWOT analysis and the positioning of the UPB research group in the EU research context, the future research directions resulting from the technology survey document (deliverable D1.1), and the roadmap for the research group.
The roadmap will present not only the research directions and the objectives to follow, but also a strategy for organizing the research activities in order to gradually respond to these objectives and cover the gap between UPB team and project’s partners.
WP2 Deliverables
Objectives
WP2 aims to create a link between the Romanian research group in the field of SDWM and the internationally-leading research institutions, as well as to encourage and enhance the networking of the Romanian research group with other research intensive institutions in Europe, industry specialists, public authorities, and institutions that regulate critical resource management.
Deliverables (brief description and month of delivery)
D2.1 Report on staff exchanges (that includes the individual reports) [months 36]
D2.2 Report on the Information & Networking events [month 36]
WP3 Deliverables
Objectives
The aim of this work-package is to organize trainings on topics related to excellence in research, that will be attended by target groups of the UPB.
Description of work
The lead partner for the work package is UNESCO-IHE, that will ensure a broad inter- and trans-disciplinary approach. The internationally leading partners will participate in trainings, according to their specializations.
D 3.1 A training needs assessment report based on a training needs survey at UPB [Month 5]
D 3.2 Short Status report on training courses and summer schools [Month 34]
WP4 Deliverables
Objectives
The aim of this work-package is to organize a series of high quality scientific events to facilitate knowledge transfer and raise the visibility of UPB at national and international level. The events will reunite: experienced and young researchers from UPB, research staff from the partnering institutions, as well as invited researchers from other bodies (universities, companies) relevant to the development of the research field.
Description of work
The lead partner of this work package is UNIMIB, that has very good experience in organizing scientific events and excellent results in the field of ICT for water management. All partners will be involved in this events, by preparing and presenting different topics for the events.
D 4.1 Workshop materials [to be prepared before each workshop]; materials will be accessible also on Knowledge lake
D 4.2 Report on organization and participation to scientific events [month 36]
WP5 Deliverables
Objectives
Promotion and dissemination activities are essential lines of actions towards achieving the project objectives. WP5 is dedicated to a series of actions that will encompass both dissemination activities of the project outcomes and results, and promotional activities of UPB excellence in research towards increasing UPB visibility at regional, European and international level.
Description of work
